Independent, Europe-oriented Ukraine has existed for 30 years. During this time, it was hardened by two revolutions. First came the Orange Revolution, which was followed by the Revolution of Dignity. The latter one confirmed the Ukrainian people in their conviction that they had made the right choice. Russia’s aggression, which led to the annexation of Crimea and to the ongoing war in the Donbas, only strengthened Ukraine’s European aspirations and resolve.
A new generation, which does not remember the Soviet-era enslavement, is entering adult life. These young people are able to effectively defend their country’s independence and can travel across the EU without a visa.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Ukrainian people continued success on the path of reforming their country, shortly followed by a clear EU membership perspective and a formal invitation to the transatlantic community, to which Ukraine truly belongs.
