EU foreign ministers and United States State Secretary Mike Pompeo said that they were ready to continue to support Ukraine during a joint video conference on Monday, June the 15th. EU High Representative of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced this.
The video conference participants discussed issues related to China’s actions, the Middle East peace process, and the policy towards the Eastern Partnership countries, which include Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Armenia.
“Regarding the eastern neighbourhood, we have reaffirmed a strong partnership between the EU and the United States. It will remain crucial, particularly for Ukraine. No doubts, Russia has to fulfil its obligations on the full Minsk agreements implementation, ” Borrell said.
At the same time, according to German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, the parties have a desire to “create new dynamics in the peace process” concerning Ukraine.
“We share a common goal with our American partners. We want to promote (in the Eastern Partnership region – ed.) the democracy, the rule of law, and free economic relations, from which all parties will benefit. We are not involved in any other country as actively as in Ukraine, ” Maas said before the video conference. Earlier, the German Foreign Minister stated that after the quarantine lifting, the Ukrainian delegation had become the first foreign delegation to visit Germany. According to Maas, this is a sign of bilateral cooperation normalization and positive dynamics of relations between Ukraine and Germany.
