Russian occupation troops are preparing Kherson for street battles, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported.
“According to available information, a large part of the population left the city of Kherson. The Russian occupiers, who remain in the city, change into civilian clothes and move into the abandoned apartments. The enemy is preparing Kherson for street battles,” the report says.
The General Staff added that as of 21 October, the occupiers were conducting measures to free the premises of Kakhovka Hospital from patients and medical personnel.
At the same time, according to Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration Yaroslav Yanushevych, on 21 October, the Russians took 46 pupils of the Kherson Regional Children’s Home to the temporarily occupied Simferopol by ambulance.
“The invaders call the abduction of children ‘evacuation.’ Little Ukrainians illegally detained by the Russians must return to Ukrainian territory as soon as possible!” Yanushevych wrote.
According to him, among the abducted pupils were children under the age of five. The Kherson Regional Military Administration sent a corresponding appeal to the prosecutor’s office.
The day before, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the termination of the occupation authorities’ activities in the town of Beryslav, Kherson region. The collaborators continue to flee the town as the Defence Forces of Ukraine are conducting a counteroffensive in the direction of Kherson.
