Ukraine Will Hand Over Its Passenger Railway to Deutsche Bahn

Next year, the state-owned company Ukrzaliznytsia will hand over passenger traffic to the German Deutsche Bahn.

This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.

“We have been working with the German railway, Deutsche Bahn, since September. There will be representatives today, it will be discussed. According to the plan, we announced this, we will hand over passenger traffic to Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting from next year. We are moving towards this,” Kubrakov said.

He added that Deutsche Bahn has such experience in Kazakhstan where it is quite successful.

Today in Ukraine, the German company is implementing the first phase of joint cooperation: the provision of consulting services.

Ukrzaliznytsia and Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting signed an agreement on consulting in the field of passenger transportation on 24 August 2021.

According to the agreement, the German company must draw up a roadmap for the implementation of long-distance and suburban passenger transport for five years by the end of this year. Consultants should develop a model for financing passenger traffic and help separate them from freight ones.

Experts should also assess opportunities for the procurement and production of regional electric trains, diesel trains, and night train cars. In particular, we are talking about international production with the participation of Ukrainian companies.
