Ukraine Plans to Renew the Association Agreement with EU

The Government of Ukraine expects to start preparations for negotiations with the European Union on the renewal of the Association Agreement in September. The draft plan of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for 2020 contains such information.

According to the document, the concept and the plan for updating of the Agreement are to be developed in September. In particular, one plans to establish an advisory body for interagency dialogue with business about the possible areas for updating the Association Agreement with the EU. In addition, the draft plan contains theses on expanding the agricultural cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union to increase the presence of Ukrainian products in the European market.

According to the plan, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, and Agriculture of Ukraine should consult with business associations and producers to promote Ukrainian products in EU markets.

The other day, the Minister of Economy Igor Petrashko said during the Economic Forum 2020 in Poland, that Ukraine expected that negotiations on the Association Agreement revision with the EU would start in 2021.

“The priority is not only to further deepen trade liberalisation but also the philosophy of the Agreement economic part in general,” the ministry said in a release.
