During 2022-2023, Ukraine plans to completely finish the arrangement of the state border with Belarus and the Russian Federation. Thousands of kilometers now remain unordered.
“The state will make every effort and allocate funds to finally arrange the border with Russia and Belarus. Next year, the Great Construction of Borders project should be implemented: engineering structures made by specialists, and an overall new intellectual border that will allow border guards to completely control the borders of our country,” Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky said while inspecting the border with Russia in the Luhansk region.
He stressed that the control system would help counteract potential attempts of invasion, sabotage, illegal migration, and smuggling.
According to Monastyrsky, about UAH 17 billion is needed for the complete arrangement of the borders. The minister added that the issue of border control had become even more relevant due to the migration crisis in Belarus.
As a reminder, in early September, the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus announced a demarche to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to illegal border crossings from Belarus to the EU.
According to the European External Action Service, the number of irregular border crossings from Belarus to the European Union has increased 50-fold. The EU condemned the use of migrants for political purposes.
