Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held talks with Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, who is visiting Ukraine for the first time.
The Ukrainian foreign minister informed his Canadian counterpart in detail about the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation: build-up of troops near the state border and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, ceasefire violations in Donbas, mass disinformation, and attempts to interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs.
Kuleba thanked Joly for Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Ukraine and Canada present a united diplomatic front against the background of Russia’s aggressive actions. Together, we are mobilising international efforts to deter Russia from pursuing its aggressive plans,” the Ukrainian minister said.
The foreign ministers discussed steps to further develop security and defence cooperation between Ukraine and Canada. Kuleba underscored the important role of the UNIFIER Canadian military training mission in strengthening the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He also thanked Canada for its strong support for Ukraine’s path towards full-fledged NATO membership.
Finally, the parties coordinated steps in the next phase of negotiations with Iran to hold perpetrators liable and establish justice for the victims of the PS752 downing and their relatives.
