Three Intelligence Networks Exposed, 18 Agents of Russian Special Services Detained in Ukraine

Over the first half of 2021, the counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed three intelligence networks in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Mykolayiv, and Odesa regions and detained 18 agents of Russian special services.

One of these networks performed the tasks of the “Ministry of State Security of the Luhansk People’s Republic” in the Joint Forces Operation area. The agents collected and passed on to their curators the intelligence information about the location and redeployment of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and also prepared a terrorist attack – poisoning of service members in the Luhansk region with a chemical substance.

A total of 167 criminal cases were opened on the basis of counterintelligence’s files on the grounds of high treason, espionage, and the creation of terrorist organisations. Over this period, 59 judgments came into force.

The counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine also confiscated components of aircraft, armoured vehicles, and anti-aircraft missile systems worth more than UAH 1 billion. These goods were handed over to the Ministry of Defence.
