Thirty-Eight Children Killed as Result of Russian Shelling in Ukraine

As of 6 March 2022, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 38 children were killed and 71 more were injured, Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova has reported.

According to her, these data are not final, as it is currently impossible to establish accurate information on the number of killed and wounded residents of Mariupol, Donetsk region, and the town of Irpin, Kyiv region.

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died as a result of shelling by Russian occupiers in Mariupol in the last 24 hours.

In Bucha, Kyiv region, two seriously injured children died due to inability to receive medical care.

On the way out of Irpin, Kyiv region, Russian troops opened fire on civilians as they tried to evacuate from the town. At least three people were killed, including two children, and another one is in critical condition due to injuries.

A boy, who was born in Kharkiv 40 days ago, died of pneumonia, which he contracted during a several-day stay in a bomb shelter in Kharkiv.

As a result of the enemy’s air attack on Bila Tserkva, missile strikes damaged 15 private homes with elderly people and children. The number of victims is still unknown.

In the Hostomel-Bucha-Irpin area there are up to 70 children in shelters, three are wounded, but doctors and volunteers are not allowed to see the children.

The Russian Armed Forces continue to grossly violate the fundamental rights of children – the right to life and health, guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“Ukraine calls on international human rights organisations to take all possible measures to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to end military aggression against Ukraine,” Denisova said.
