During a meeting with the faithful, Pope Francis wished that the people affected by the floods in western Ukraine would feel “the Lord’s consolation and fraternal help,” according to the Holy See’s information system Vatican News.
Speaking from the window of the Apostolic Palace, the Pope encouraged, in particular, prayers for the betterment of destiny of the people of the Middle East suffering from wars, “and also for those affected by the great floods in western Ukraine: let them experience the Lord’s consolation and fraternal help,” said the Pontiff.
In recent days, western Ukraine has been hit by severe floods, which have caused significant damage – estimated to be even greater than the equally devastating floods that devastated the region in 2008.
