The Occupying Power in Donbas Introduced the Death Penalty

The occupying authorities in the territory of the so-called “DPR” introduced the death penalty for crimes. Two cases were already knownwhen the so-called “court” passed the death sentence. This is stated in the report of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The document states that at the time of publication of the report, the sentences had not yet been executed.

The UN added that the administration is concerned about the introduction of the death penalty in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region because in the first years of the war in the Donbas, illegal armed groups have already carried out executions.

At the same time, the press service of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, citing data from the Central Intelligence Agency, reported that pro-Russian occupation administrations continue measures to forcibly certify the population in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“The obligatory condition for military service by the personnel of formations and units 1 (Donetsk) and 2 (Luhansk) of the AK occupiers is that they have Russian citizenship. Since the beginning of September this year, commanders of units of the occupiers are required to report updated data weekly to the team on the availability of Russian passports for mercenaries from among locals and their families and information on the provision of documents for Russian citizenship,” it is stated in a statement.

In addition, units of the Russian occupation forces have introduced additional conditions for contract military service. In particular, candidates must have a military ticket of the so-called “DPR / LPR” and a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation.
