Russian propagandists spread actively the fake news that US citizen Bogdan Vechirko, who drove into a crowd of protesters in Minneapolis (USA) on May 31, 2020, is allegedly a former military serviceman and member of the Anti-Terrorist Operation.
This false news was denied by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
They noted that “the data directly related to the Ukrainian Armed Forces ought to be carefully cross-checked, society should not be misled, the accents must not be shifted and only the verified information which was obtained from the official sources may be used in accordance with Ukrainian and international standards and principles of journalistic ethics, namely, necessary reference to the sources, separation facts from comments, accuracy, completeness and objectivity of information presentation”.
The information that the detainee Bohdan Vechirko is a US citizen and was not an anti-terrorist action member is confirmed by the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States.
According to the Hybrid Warfare Analytical Group page, Russian propagandists took photos from the profile of a real Ukrainian veteran who had never even been to the United States, but had the same name as the American.
It is noteworthy that some Ukrainian resources have joined the spread of this fake, which emphasized that more and more incidents with Ukrainians who had served in the Armed Forces have been reported recently.
The General Staff recollected that under the conditions of a hybrid war, which gathers speed specifically in media, it was extremely important to consume information consciously!
