Slovakia has decided to expel three Russian diplomats suspected of spying for Russia. Russia promises to give a symmetrical answer.
The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “According to the Slovak secret services, their activities contradicted the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
Diplomats are due to leave Slovakia by the end of this week.
It should be recalled that this is not the first diplomatic scandal with Russia. In June, the Czech government decided to expel two diplomats from the Russian embassy in Prague over involvement in a scandal with the threat to poison Czech politicians.
According to the country’s Prime Minister Andrei Babish, two employees of the Russian embassy were declared “persona non grata.. According to the Czech Security and Information Service, one of the employees of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation spread false information about the planned attacks on Czech politicians, which complicated relations between the states.
In turn, the Russian embassy has already called the Czech government’s decision a “fabricated provocation” and a “hostile step” that indicates the unwillingness of official Prague to normalise bilateral relations.
