More than half of Ukrainians support the idea of the country’s accession to NATO as evidenced by the results of a new poll conducted by the Ukrainian Institute for the Future jointly with the New Image Marketing Group on 21-23 January 2022.
In particular, 40% of respondents fully support this initiative, 24 rather support it, 8% rather do not support it, 9% do not support it, and 13% are undecided.
Men are slightly more in favour of joining NATO than women – 73% against 59%. In addition, the representatives of the 45+ age category support the accession the most, while respondents aged 18-27 years – the least: 69% against 54%, respectively.
The largest number of NATO membership supporters live in Kyiv and western Ukraine: 71% and 73%, respectively. This idea is least supported in the east – 47%.
As reported, according to the poll “Awareness and readiness of citizens to join the territorial defence units,” conducted by the Ukrainian Institute for the Future in November-December, 49% of men and 18% of women are ready to participate in territorial defence.
