The military counter-intelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained yet another agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (better known as GRU) during a special operation in the Kherson region.
The offender turned out to be a contract member of one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is stationed in the region and performs combat missions on the front line.
At the behest of the Russian special service, the traitor gathered intelligence data about the unmanned aerial vehicles of the security and defence forces.
First of all, the enemy was interested in the places of use of Ukrainian reconnaissance drones on the right bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region.
The GRU agent also tried to gather as much information as possible about potential counteroffensive operations of Ukrainian troops.
In addition, she monitored the firing positions of the air defense units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region.
In case of the successful execution of the enemy’s tasks, the occupiers promised to “evacuate” her to the Russian Federation and issue a Russian passport.
The SBU agents detained the offender when she was trying to obtain secret information about Ukrainian military facilities.
According to investigation data, the contract servicewoman was recruited remotely at the beginning of this year by a GRU agent with the call sign “Dimka.”
She came to the attention of the Russian special services because she followed various military-oriented groups on the banned Vkontakte social network.
The traitor communicated with the aggressor through one of the messengers and transmitted the received information in the form of electronic coordinates with photographs of objects.
During searches, a mobile phone was found in the suspect’s possession, which she used in intelligence and subversive activities for the benefit of the Russian Federation.
Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served her with notice of charges under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed in wartime).
The perpetrator is in custody. She faces life in prison.
The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Kherson specialised prosecutor’s office in the field of defence of the Southern region.
