Since the beginning of 2021, counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have exposed more than 70 cases of treason, espionage, and participation in terrorist groups and organisations. In particular, counterintelligence officers exposed and terminated the activities of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) intelligence network of former military spies which operated in Kyiv, Odesa, Mykolayiv, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions.
Russian agents prepared sabotage operations, gathered information about deployment and relocation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and intended to abduct one of the former commanders of the Special Operations Forces.
In total, in the first quarter of 2021, the SBU investigators initiated 815 criminal proceedings; 280 indictments were already submitted to court.
