On Saturday, 19 August, the Russian army shelled the centre of Chernihiv, probably with a ballistic missile that hit the Drama Theatre. So far, it is known that about seven people were killed and about 90 people injured. A child is among those killed.
“A Russian missile hit right in the center of the city, in our Chernihiv. A square, the polytechnic university, a theater. An ordinary Saturday, which Russia turned into a day of pain and loss. There are dead; there are wounded. My condolences to those who lost loved ones…” wrote President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Head of State promised to work on greater consolidation of the world against Russian terror.
The State Emergency Service clarified that as a result of an enemy missile attack, the roof of the Drama Theatre collapsed, and a fire broke out. The windows of the fire station were damaged. There was a fire in a store, which has now been put out.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that 10 police officers and 12 children were among the injured.
“Twenty-five people were hospitalised. A 12-year-old girl is urgently taken to Kyiv by reanimobile. The child is in serious condition,” wrote Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.
It is reported that the Russian army launched a missile attack on the Drama Theatre in the centre of Chernihiv when an event for drone manufacturers and aerial reconnaissance training schools was held there as part of the “Liuti Ptashky” demo day.
