On the night of 9 October, the Russian army launched another attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia. According to preliminary information, the occupiers used tactical aviation.
As informed by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, a high-rise building in the regional centre was destroyed as a result of an enemy missile attack.
As of 8:39 a.m., Oleksandr Starukh, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported 12 dead.
“Most of the rockets hit residential multi-storey and private houses in one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia. A nine-story building was partially destroyed. Five private houses were destroyed. Infrastructure facilities were damaged. Some 20 cars were damaged… Some 49 victims were hospitalised, including six children. The information is being clarified. There may be people under the rubble. A rescue operation is underway at the scene,” the official said.
According to the State Emergency Service, one entrance from the first to the eighth floor of the multi-story building was destroyed.
At the same time, the command of the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces informed that the attack on Zaporizhzhia was carried out from the temporarily occupied territories – from the districts of Melitopol and Berdiansk.
“Four Kh-22 cruise missiles (from the Tu-22M3) and two Kh-59 guided air missiles (from the Su-35) were launched. In addition, the enemy launched a missile strike with anti-aircraft missiles from the S-300 air defence system. About 16 rockets were fired at the city’s civil infrastructure and residential blocks,” the report reads.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to this yet another act of terrorism by the Russian occupiers.
“Zaporizhzhia again. Merciless strikes on peaceful people again. On residential buildings, just in the middle of the night… Absolute meanness. Absolute evil. Savages and terrorists. From the one who gave this order to everyone who fulfilled this order. They will bear responsibility. For sure. Before the law and before people,” the Head of State wrote on Telegram.
As a reminder, on 6 October, the Russian invaders also attacked residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia, killing 17 people. At one address, the bodies of 13 people, including one child, were recovered from the rubble of a five-story residential building. Also, four people were hospitalised. At the second address, the bodies of four dead people were recovered from the rubble of a four-story residential building, and eight people were hospitalised.
