Yesterday, at the “Breakfast with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine” meeting organised by the European Policy Centre (EPC), Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin ( Андрій Костін ) made a significant contribution to informing the European community, discussing the activities of the prosecutor’s office during the full-scale invasion. He emphasised the documentation of war crimes, the implementation of innovative technological solutions, including artificial intelligence for processing large amounts of data, and successes in prosecuting war criminals in the international arena.
Kostin’s professionalism and deep expertise elicited admiration. In particular, the use of universal jurisdiction by foreign courts was discussed during the meeting, with an important question posed by the Vice-President of Promote Ukraine. Kostin enthusiastically supported the initiative to pursue cases against criminals in any court willing to take them, providing examples of support in Lithuania, Germany, and the United States.
There was also a meeting with the Federal Prosecutor of the Kingdom of Belgium, Frederik van Leeuw, where Belgium’s position on universal jurisdiction proved to be ambiguous.
We express our gratitude to the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Prosecutor General himself for his tireless work in holding criminals accountable and for his active international engagement. You are the embodiment of professionalism and talented diplomacy.
Thank you to the European Policy Center and especially to Amanda Paul for the unforgettable event!
