Athletes of War Screened in European Parliament in Strasbourg

Promote Ukraine had the privilege of organising a private screening of the “Athletes of War” documentary by Gabriel Veras in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Hosted by Vice President of the European Parliament @pinapicierno, the event included a screening of the documentary and an open and honest discussion between the Members of the European Parliament Viola von Cramon @violavoncramon (Greens), Alessandra Moretti @alessandramorettipd (S&D), David Lega @legadavid (EPP), Fabio Massimo Castaldo @fabiomassimocastaldo (Renew), Ilhan Kyuchyuk @ilhankyuchyuk (Renew), and Michaela Sojdrova @sojdrovamichaelaofficial (EPP), the executive producer of the documentary Bernardo Alvarez and three professional Ukrainian-decorated athletes, including Olympic medalists Sergiy Stakhovskiy @stako_s, Stanislav Horuna @iamhoruna, and Maryna Aleksiiva @maryna_aleksiiva.

The discussion raised important topics about the impossible reality Ukrainian professional athletes are facing, the necessity of excluding Russian athletes from the Olympic Games, and other international competitions, and the use of sport as a propaganda instrument.

The world premiere of the movie will take place on 10 April 2024 during Cleveland Film Festival.
