The implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project is a weapon not only against Ukraine, but also against the whole of Europe in the future, so forces should be joined to counter this “energy threat.”
“Currently, the biggest challenge for Ukraine in this area [energy] is the completion and launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Putting it into operation is not about the economy. It is a weapon against Ukraine, and I am sure it will be a weapon against the whole of Europe in the future. This is a direct security trap for everyone,” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said at the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. International Relations.”
He also pointed out the need to oppose the implementation of this project and involve all partners in this difficult struggle as it is a “direct security trap for all.”
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine would demand compensation in the event of the launch of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“We have formulated two principles, adhering to which we can talk about compensation if it comes to the point. This principle is security: how the security of the state will be guaranteed. And the second is safeguarding the implementation of agreements. Because it is possible to agree with the Russian Federation, and even Germany can guarantee something in these agreements, but how to force Russia to adhere to the agreements is a big question to which there are no answers,” Kuleba said.
As a reminder, Germany continues to support the idea of completing the Russian gas pipeline. At the same time, Berlin states that the completion of Nord Stream 2 will not thwart the transit of gas through Ukraine.
It was also reported that Germany and the United States are preparing agreements on Nord Stream 2. The purpose of the agreements is to protect Ukraine in particular and Europe as a whole from excessive dependence on Russian gas.
