Pentagon: Ukraine is an “important partner” under the confrontation with Russia

The US Department of Defence said that the cooperation with Ukraine in the defence sector is “crucial” taking into account the strategic confrontation between the United States and the Russian Federation.

This was declared in the Pentagon statement about the approval defence aid package to Ukraine of $ 250 million in the fiscal year 2020.

“The United States remains steadfast in Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity upholding within its internationally recognized borders,” the U.S. Defense Department said.

At the same time, the Pentagon clarified that assistance to Ukraine includes not only the defence capabilities expansion of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Partially the funds are to be used for Kyiv’s defence reforms, in particular, on improving the airspace monitoring systems of Ukraine, command and control systems. The assistance also covers medical care level for the militaries increase, evacuation procedures improvement, strengthening cyber defence and strategic communications to counter Russian operations.

Besides, the announcement of the plans to provide counter-battery radars and tactical equipment took place.

One day before US Congress fully approved a package of assistance to Ukraine for 2020 in the security and defence field of $ 250 million under the USAI program according to the Pentagon recommendations.
