As a result of the flood caused by the Russian occupiers undermining the Kakhovka HPP dam, 31 people were killed in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.
“As of today, 31 people were killed: 29 in (the) Kherson region, and two citizens in (the) Mykolayiv region,” Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko told Radio Liberty in an interview.
At the same time, according to him, the final calculation of material losses has not yet been completed.
“It is very difficult to calculate for these months how much possible harvest we have lost, how many private farms we have lost (including vineyards and melons that grew in this territory), how many water opportunities we have lost. This is a big problem. The water receded several kilometres from the shore of the Kherson Reservoir. And for today, I see access to water for our citizens in the future as the main problem,” Klymenko noted.
As a reminder, the number of flood victims in the occupied left-bank part of the Kherson region is unknown. Many more people were affected there because, geographically, this area is located lower. The Russian occupiers did not allow Ukrainian rescuers, volunteers, or representatives of international organisations to enter there.
