The European Union has decided to postpone the Ukraine-EU Association Counci, DW reports referring to its source in the EU bodies.
It was noted that this event takes place annually and this year was scheduled on 8 December as a video conference due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the European Union prefers to hold the event offline, when circumstances allow.
A meeting in a virtual format would be informal because in the EU any formal meetings at the political level can be held only personally. And only then decisions can be made.
The EU is represented by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy at the Association Council, and Ukraine’s representative there is the Prime Minister.
To recap, on 1 December, the European Commission and the EU Foreign Policy Service published a report assessing reforms in Ukraine, as well as its achievements and failures in the implementation of the Association Agreement over the past year. The document, in particular, indicates that recent decisions of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine have jeopardised the achievements in the fight against corruption in Ukraine. Brussels considers the changes in the rule of law and the fight against corruption to be positive achievements.
