On 12 May, Brussels activists went on the streets to pressure the federal government with a strong message: stop the contract between Belgian gas network provider Fluxys and Russia. This trade agreement makes Zeebrugge the largest hub for Russian liquefied gas in the world.
Why did we march?
* By allowing Russian gas to flow through the port of Zeebrugge, we strengthen Russia’s military capability, allowing them to sustain their war of aggression against Ukraine. This has to stop.
* The Russian gas industry is highly dependent on access to Zeebrugge. If we deny that access, we undermine Russia’s plan to triple its LNG production capacity by 2030 – a plan which would result in a climate disaster of untold scale!
Don’t stop addressing these messages to the governments:
* Our trade relations should help protect human rights, rather than fund wars.
* Fossil fuels and the expansion of their infrastructure have no durable future.
