DEUkraine has asked the Russian Federation to provide detailed explanations on military activities near the borders and in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. If no explanations are provided within 48 hours, Kyiv will convene an extraordinary meeting of the Vienna Document participating states.
“According to the Vienna Document, Russia needs to provide detailed explanation on the objectives, precise location and dates of completion of its military activities, as well as designation, subordination, number and types of formations, as well as types of equipment involved,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba posted on Twitter.
In case of absence of a reply or its insufficiency or irrelevance, Ukraine will address Russia, as well as other participating states of the Vienna Document, to convene an extraordinary meeting where the Kremlin will have to provide explanations.
Kyiv keeps using all diplomatic means to ensure the security of Ukraine, Kuleba stressed.
The Vienna Document signatories are the participating states of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which are 57 countries of Europe, Central Asia, and North America.
The Vienna Document provides, inter alia, for the annual exchange of military information on forces stationed in the territories of the participating states and for military communications to reduce risks.
Meanwhile, the Russian army continues large-scale military exercises in Belarus and the Southern Military District with manoeuvres in the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.
On Saturday, 12 February, the Ministry of Defence of Russia announced the start of exercises in the Black Sea, involving more than 30 Russian warships. Ship divisions and units of the coastal troops, naval aviation will practice a complex of missile, artillery firing, missile and bomb strikes on naval, coastal, and air targets.
