Ukraine and Iran have agreed on three major points in talks on compensation for the UIA plane downing next to Tehran, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Head Dmytro Kuleba announced.
Negotiations with the Iranian delegation lasted 11 hours and ended late in the Thursday evening on 30 July.
“We note the readiness to solve the problem due to which the Iranian delegation arrived. There is an agreement that an impartial transparent investigation is needed,” the Ukrainian minister said.
The three main results of the talks with Iran are the following:
- Iran has joined the negotiation process to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy, bring the perpetrators to justice and pay compensation;
- Iran has agreed to fulfil all its obligations under the International Convention on Aviation Safety.
- Ukraine has agreed with the Iranian side about the negotiation process structure: investigators, technical experts and lawyers will communicate.
“Based on this information, we can calculate the losses amount and compensation, more precisely. There is no answer yet about the compensation amount. One cannot write it out from the head. It is the result of taking into account all the factors, ” Kuleba summed up.
At the same time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that his country is ready to pay compensation, but it will take a long time.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office’s press service, the next round of talks with Iran regarding the compensation for the UIA plane downing is planned for October.
