Involvement of Russian Special Services in Cyber Attack on Ukraine’s Government Agencies Established

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with the State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine and the Cyber ​​Police, continues to investigate the cyber attack on the websites of Ukrainian government agencies on the night of 13-14 January 2022.

As a reminder, more than 70 state websites were targeted, 10 of which suffered unauthorised interference. The content of the sites remained intact, and no personal data was leaked.

The SBU experts claim that a so-called supply chain attack was launched among others. The attackers defaced the infrastructure of a commercial company that had administrative access to the web resources affected by the attack.

At present, it can be said that there are signs of involvement of hacker groups linked with the Russian special services in the incident.
