DENew sanctions will be imposed and new support will be provided by the European Union for war crimes committed by the Russian army in the region north of Kyiv. President of the European Council Charles Michel wrote this on Twitter after seeing photos taken in the liberated Bucha.
“Shocked by haunting images of atrocities committed by the Russian army in Kyiv liberated region,” the politician admitted, adding a hashtag #BuchaMassacre.
Charles Michel believes that this is evidence of war crimes and that they should be used in court.
“The European Union is assisting Ukraine and non-governmental organisations in gathering of necessary evidence for pursuit in international courts,” he added.
UK’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is also shocked by atrocities committed by Russian invaders in Ukraine.
“Appalled by atrocities in Bucha and other towns in Ukraine. Reports of Russian forces targeting innocent civilians are abhorrent. The UK is working with others to collect evidence and support war crimes investigation by the International Criminal Court. Those responsible will be held to account,” Truss posted on Twitter.
Earlier, Anatoliy Fedoruk, mayor of Bucha town, located north of Kyiv, said that a mass grave with about 280 people buried had been found in the town. Dozens of bodies of executed civilians lie in the streets, some with their hands tied.
