Alba Azucena Torres, the Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation, illegally visited the occupied Crimea to present the so-called “Honorary Consul of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation with a residence in Simferopol” Oleg Belaventsev with a consular patent.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed strong protest. After all, such actions are a severe violation of Ukrainian and international law. This event is considered by our state to be an openly unfriendly step by Nicaragua towards Ukraine. It contributes to the aggression of the Russian Federation and its attempt to annex an integral part of Ukraine’s territory, which are the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has repeatedly warned the Nicaraguan side about the inadmissibility of the actions that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state. At present, the Ukrainian side has begun the process of imposing sanctions according to Ukrainian legislation and takes all necessary actions provided by Ukrainian and international law to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.
To recap, Promote Ukraine has already written about the possible opening of an “honorary consulate” of Nicaragua in the Crimea. Its core purpose was the legalisation of the Russian Federation’s occupation of Crimea and the free use of some regimes in the world. Oleg Belaventsev, the new Consul of Nicaragua in the Crimea, is a well-known vice-admiral and an experienced GRU employee who was expelled from Great Britain in 1985 for espionage. He was also awarded “the Russian Federation hero star” for Ukraine, as the Russian Federation North Caucasus Federal District head, by Putin’s secret decree in 2014. Ukrainian justice sentenced him in absentia to 13 years in prison in our country. According to the Ukrainian investigation, Belaventsev, in 2014, organised the seizure of the Crimean Peninsula by Russian military and “Cossack organisations.” He also tried to persuade Ukrainian military personnel, located in Crimea, to commit treason.
