Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held talks with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian in Kyiv.
Kuleba thanked Le Drian for his strong support for Ukraine‘s sovereignty and territorial integrity against the background of the Russian Federation’s aggressive actions, as well as France’s active mediation efforts to find a political and diplomatic solution to the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.
Le Drian reaffirmed France’s commitment to the principle of “no decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine” and underscored the sovereign right of Ukraine, like any other state, to determine its future.
The ministers discussed ways to de-escalate the security situation and intensify the political settlement, in particular within the Normandy format. They agreed that an important step in this direction should be Russia’s withdrawal of troops from the state border and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The pair underlined that the new wave of aggression against Ukraine would have unprecedented tough consequences for Russia.
The foreign ministers paid special attention to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, as well as ensuring its economic and financial stability.
Kuleba invited the French side to take part in a high-level parliamentary summit of the Crimea Platform in August.
