CEC Begins Preparations for Elections in Donbas

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has asked Donetsk and Luhansk regional state administrations to provide conclusions on the possibility of holding the first local elections in Donbas on 28 March 2021, the press service of the CEC Secretariat reports.

The conclusions on 10 village, rural town, and town territorial communities of the Bakhmut, Volnovakha, Mariupol and Pokrovsk districts of the Donetsk region and eight territorial communities of the Severodonetsk and Shchastia districts of the Luhansk region must be submitted no later than 12:00 on 15 January.

As a reminder, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Reintegration of Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov stated that elections in the occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions can be called only by a separate law of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
