During a telephone conversation, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned Russian President Vladimir Putin about the consequences of incursion into Ukraine. According to him, this will be a tragic error.
“The Prime Minister expressed his deep concern about Russia’s current hostile activity on the Ukrainian border. He emphasised the need to find a way forward which respects both Ukraine’s territorial integrity and right to self-defence. The Prime Minister stressed that any further Russian incursion into Ukrainian territory would be a tragic miscalculation,” reads the press release published on the website of the Government of the United Kingdom.
Johnson also underscored that, under NATO’s open door policy, all European democracies have a right to aspire to NATO membership and this right applies to Ukraine. He reiterated that NATO is a defensive alliance.
As a reminder, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Kyiv on 1 February. Johnson and Zelensky agreed that it was better to stop Russia before the attack, rather than after it moved forward.
