Ukraine is on the verge of another crisis in relations with the United States. Volodymyr Zelensky is again being tried to drag to the side of one of the US presidential candidates, which could have long-term consequences for relations between the two countries. And with his statements and open criminal cases, Zelensky only contributes to this. Who is behind the appearance of the compromising material against Joseph Biden and will Zelensky play along with Trump?

On May 19, People’s Deputy and former member of the Party of Regions Andriy Derkach released audio materials, which, in his opinion, testify to Petro Poroshenko’s treason and corruption. According to the deputy, he received recordings from investigative journalists, and Poroshenko personally recorded conversations.

The current government has decided to respond to Derkach’s statements.

“I think this is not the last call Ukrainians will see. The prosecutor’s office and law enforcement agencies must react, I know that the Prosecutor General registered a criminal case yesterday … They will investigate,” said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference on May 20.

Even before the president’s words, the Office of the Prosecutor General managed to open a criminal case under articles on the abuse of power and treason. And the speaker of the parliament Dmytro Razumkov stated that the Rada is initiating the creation of a temporary commission of inquiry about the “Derkach’s films”.
